Knowledge and Understanding: Living World Stage 5

Miss Lepedjian’s class

Hello to all Year 9 science students.

I hope everyone is well and ready to take on this week’s module on ECOSYSTEMS!

Over the course of the next three lessons, we will be focusing on building your knowledge around ecosystems, where you will be given the opportunity to be creative and immerse yourselves into the world of Virtual reality.

These lessons are not going to be like any other. Students will be adopting the central role by overlapping the world of SCIENCE and DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, educating yourselves as well as the class.

Before this week begins, I would like to introduce you all to an emerging technology called Virtual Reality (VR). Some of you may have already experienced the VR world and others may have not. Virtual reality is a “Highly interactive, computer-based multimedia environment in which the user becomes the participant in a computer-generated world” (Onyesolu & Akpado, 2009).

For the purpose of our classes, we will be using smart phones with the Google cardboard VR kits as seen below.

As mentioned before, could all students please remember to bring their Apple or Android smart phones for these three lessons with the downloaded apps Google expeditions and CoSpaces (any student who does not have a smart phone please approach me before the beginning of the class).

Thank you everyone and enjoy the experience.

Side note: Students please ensure all the work you conduct over the coming 3 lessons is your work. Strictly no plagiarism. Those who simply plagiarise will be penalised.
